Eagles Move On In NCCAAs

Lookout Mountain, Ga. - Asbury volleyball survived pool play of the NCCAA Mid-East Region tournament on Friday with a 1-1 record.  The Eagles lost to Bryan College 3-0 in the first match of pool play before coming back to beat Bluefield College 3-0 to ensure their play in the day two.

Asbury (24-14) played Bryan tough in all three games, 26-28, 21-25, 19-25 but couldn't come away with the victory.  Emily Andrews (Deltona, Fla.) and Brittney Rader (Seoul, South Korea) led the Eagles with 10 and 14 kills respectively.  The duo also teamed up on the back row as Rader led the team with 22 digs and Andrews had 15.  Hannah Wheeler (Lexington, Ky.) had 18 digs in the match.  Julia Armstrong (Austin, Texas) had 36 assists and Tina Marye had five total blocks.

The Eagles came back in a must win against Bluefield and took care of business, 25-17, 25-9, 25-21.  Marye led the team with 14 kills and Armstrong had 38 more assists.  Andrews and Wheeler each dug 13 balls. 

Asbury will now play a one game tie-breaker playoff with Oakland City who finished second place in the other pool.  That game will be played to 25 points and will start at 9:30 am.  The winner will face the top overall seed in the tournament, Campbellsville at 11:00 am with the championship match at 4:00 pm.
