Eagles Earn Road Win
Owensboro, Ky. - Asbury volleyball jumped back into conference play after the Asbury Invitational on the weekend, with a four game win over Bresica University on Tuesday night. The Eagles dropped the first set to the Bearcats 16-25, before storming back to take the next three 25-14, 25-18, 25-19.
Asbury (15-9, 4-2 KIAC) was led by freshman Brittney Rader (Seoul, South Korea) who had 13 kills in 31 attempts and junior Lauren Budde (Taylor Mill, Ky.) with 15 kills. Rader has had her two highest kills totals in the last two games, she had a season-best 19 against Bryan on Saturday. Rader added 13 digs and three aces to her all-around solid game. Julia Armstrong led the team with 36 assists and Hannah Wheeler dug 18 to lead the defense.
The Eagles have defeated Brescia for the second straight year, but are only 2-5 against the Bearcats in the last five years. Asbury currently sits in fourth place in the KIAC with two games remaining. All three teams ahead of them still have six conference games left. Asbury only has one of those three teams remaining on the schedule in Mountain State. That game is the only home game left on the season and is Senior Night, it will be played during Homecoming Week on Friday October 30th at 7:00 pm.
Asbury will travel to Hanover, Indiana on Saturday October 17th to face Manchester College and Hanover College in part of a tri-match. Asbury will play Manchester at 3:00 pm followed by a match against Hanover at 5:00 pm.
