Volleyball Sweeps Weekend
ST. Louis, Mo. - Asbury's volleyball team earned a big road sweep taking down Oakland City University 3-1 on Friday night before battling KIAC foe St. Louis College of Pharmacy 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Asbury (4-4, 1-1) finally climbed back to .500 for the first time since August 28th when they were 1-1. Junior Lauren Budde led the charge against the Mighty Oaks on Friday, racking up 13 kills, two solo blocks, and two block assists. Senior setter Julia Armstrong piled up 33 assists playing as the only setter all match. Junior Emily Andrews added nine kills while freshmen Brittney Rader had eight.
Against the Eutectics on Saturday, Andrews led the team with a season-high 17 kills. Andrews only had two attack errors in 33 attempts. She added 15 defensive digs. Middle hitters Tina Marye and Lindsay Ibold racked up 11 and 10 kills respectively. Providing the chance for all those kills was Armstrong who racked up 47 assists, bringing her weekend total to 80.
The Eagles struggled in both matches, dropping game one in each before rallying to take the next three each day. Asbury fell behind the Mighty Oaks 13-25 before winning three close sets 25-21, 25-22, 25-20. Once again Asbury dropped the first set to the Eutectics 23-25 before flexing their muscle in the next three 25-9, 25-14, 25-14.
Asbury will travel to Midway College on Thursday night for a non-conference match at 7:00 pm before taking part in the Centre College Classic on Saturday in Danville. Asbury won't return home until September 29th against Kentucky State University.
