Eagles Split Union Tri-Match
Barbourville, Ky. - Asbury's volleyball team earned a split in a tri-match with Montreat College and Union College. The Eagles took down Montreat in three games before falling to the hosts from Union in three.
Asbury (8-6) struggled offensively in both contests with attack percentages of .155 and .105, but had a big time defensive performance against Montreat with a season-high 92 digs. Hannah Wheeler (Lexington, Ky.) led the team with 22, second most this season, and Brittney Rader (Seoul, South Korea) added 21.
Emily Andrews led the team with 11 kills against Montreat and Julia Armstrong had 25 assists. The Eagles finished off Montreat in three games with scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-14. Asbury improved to 3-3 in neutral site games this year.
Asbury couldn't come up with as many key digs against Union like they did against Montreat, compiling only 49 against the Bulldogs. Wheeler again led the team with 19. Rader added 10 digs and a team best seven kills in the match.
Asbury only registered four kills in the first game in losing 25-7 before fighting back in game two with 14 kills and only three errors before eventually falling in a tough set 25-23. The Eagles would drop the third game 25-17.
Asbury has fared well on the road this season despite the loss, falling to 4-2 in true road contests. So far the Eagles have played only two of 14 contests at home this season. That will change in the coming weeks as Asbury is set to host Kentucky State on Tuesday September 29th at 7:00 pm, a tri-match against Indiana East and Kentucky Christian on Saturday October 3rd and the Asbury Invitational on Friday and Saturday October 9-10.
