Eagles Split Pair at Centre Invitational
Danville, Ky. - The Eagles split a pair of games in the Centre College Invitational on Saturday, falling to Spalding University 3-0 before taking down Transylvania University 3-1. Asbury lost senior middle hitter Tina Marye early in game one against Spalding with a foot injury, and struggled to find a quick solution.
Asbury (6-5) struggled big time against Spalding, finishing with a negative attack percentage for the first time this season. The only Eagle who did not have a negative percentage was Lindsay Ibold (Cincinnati, Ohio), who was the only middle hitter with experience left after Marye was injured. Ibold finished with a team-high seven kills and zero errors. Julia Armstrong led the team with 17 assists.
The Eagles found their mark in match two against Transylvania, taking down the Pioneers 23-25, 26-24, 25-12, 25-20. Asbury still had 24 errors but added 38 kills in this match. Ibold again had a nice game with 10 kills and four errors in 26 attacks, but the team was led by Emily Andrews (Deltona, Fla.) who had 13 kills. Armstrong racked up 33 assists to finish with 50 for the weekend.
Asbury will travel to Cincinnati on Tuesday September 22nd to battle Cincinnati Christian in a KIAC contest. These two teams met back in August at the Shawnee State Invitational in a non-conference match with Asbury taking it in five.
