Volleyball swept at Union Invitational

The weekend would begin with promise after the Eagles extended their first opponent, Virginia Intermont, to a fifth game before losing 27-30, 30-24, 27-30, 30-28, 7-15. Junior Ellen Adkison and sophomore Danielle Morrison led the way with 17 kills apiece while freshman Jenelle McClean earned 27 assists along with fellow freshman Julia Armstrong's 25 assists.

The second match of the weekend came against a known foe in Indiana-Southeast, with IUS winning in three straight, 21-30, 24-30, 17-30. Adkison again led with eight kills while McClean and Armstrong registered 13 assists apiece. Adkison also registered 11 digs.

The final match in pool play on Friday came against host Union (Ky.) with the Bulldogs securing another 3-0 loss for Asbury, 22-30, 23-30, 25-30. Adkison scored 11 kills while McClean registered 17 assists and freshman Hannah Wheeler recorded 13 digs.

With pool play over, the Eagles went on to face Mountain State in the first round of Saturday's tournament with another 3-0 defeat, 30-32, 26-30, 18-30. Armstrong would register 26 assists on Asbury's 36 kills while Wheeler recorded 27 digs. Sophomore Christina Marye led with nine kills.

The results drop Asbury to 4-11 on the season. They will next be in play against Transylvania (Ky.) University on Tuesday, September 18th in Lexington before traveling to Nashville, Tennessee to face Trevecca Nazarene and Lyon College of Arkansas before coming home on Thursday, September 27th to face the University of the Cumberlands
