Softball Splits with Berea to End Regular Season
BEREA, Ky. – Asbury softball wrapped up their regular season with a split with Berea, winning 3-1 and losing 3-2. The Eagles finish the regular season with a 16-24 overall record and a 13-13 mark in league play. The 2013 KIAC Tournament begins on Friday in Danville.
Maris Harreld hit a home run and pitched a complete game in game one as the Eagles defeated the Mountaineers 3-1. The home run came in the third inning with two on and was the second straight hit of the inning after Madi Adair singled. Ashleigh West worked a one-out walk to start the rally.
In the circle Harreld allowed just four hits in her 19th complete game of the season. She struck out five in the game and improved to 10-10. Amber Taylor had two hits in the game for the Eagles.
Game two was another pitcher’s duel with just 12 hits in the game but the difference came in the field. The Eagles committed three errors including two that led to two runs in the seventh to give Berea a 3-2 lead. Harrelld took the loss and fell to 10-11 on the season with 2.1 innings of relief.
The Eagles took the lead with one run in the fourth and another to re-take the lead at 2-1 in the fifth. Sarah Woolums knocked in the first run with a sac fly in the fourth. Julie Jarboe singled to score Madi Adair in the fifth. AnnaBeth Hill had two hits in the game and scored the first run.
Two errors in the seventh led to two runs for Berea. Kari Kviten singled in the winning run after the tying run scored on an error one batter before.
Asbury looks to be the fourth seed in the KIAC Tournament that begins on Friday in Danville. If they are the fourth seed they will play at 12:15 pm on Friday. Once the seeds are finalized the bracket will be released on twitter and facebook.
