Asbury Softball Drops Heartbreaker to Bryan
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury softball dropped two to Bryan College on Friday night, 8-2 and 10-9 in eight innings. The Eagles led 8-1 after five innings in game two before Bryan tied it with a three-run home run in the seventh with two outs.
Asbury (6-10) seemed to roll in game two, scoring five in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead, just one run away from winning via mercy rule. The Eagles pounded out seven hits in the inning as Maris Harreld’s two-run homer capped the scoring. It was Harreld’s second homer of the game and third of the season. Madi Adair also knocked in two in the inning with a double. Adair and Harreld hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning. It was the first home run for Adair in her young career.
Bryan chipped away with three runs in the sixth and then tied it with four in the seventh. Courtney Combs came off the bench to hit a three-run home run with two outs in the seventh. The pitch before the home run was called a ball but was very close to being the final strike of the game. The Lions (11-15) added two in the seventh. The Eagles scored once in the eighth as Sarah Woolums came home on a wild pitch but left the tying run on second.
In game one the Eagles collected just five hits as Bryan won 8-2. The Eagles scored one in the third to cut the Lion lead to 4-1. Julie Jarboe singled in AnnaBeth Hill after Hill led off the inning with an infield single. The Eagles also scored in the sixth as Woolums knocked in Amber Taylor. Taylor finished the game with two hits.
Asbury is set to host Midway College on Saturday at 1 pm in a makeup of Tuesday’s rain out.
