Warford Named NCCAA All-American
Senior Mary Ann Warford continues to collect awards after a tremendous season on the diamond for the softball team. The center fielder was named National Christian College Athletic Association All-American 1st Team, becoming only the second softball player in school history to achieve this honor.
Warford was also named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year after leading the conference with a .469 batting average and 76 total hits. Her hits total was nearly 20 higher than the closest KIAC rival. Warford also led the conference in stolen bases (38) and ranked 3rd in runs scored (41). Her 38 steals ranks 9th in the NAIA.
Asbury’s only other NCCAA All-American came in 2009 as Carrie Wilderman was honored. 2009 was the first year the program was brought back after a five-year absence. Warford was also named College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District. CoSIDA’s Academic All-Americans will be announced on Monday.
