Taylor, Wade Go Back-To-Back As Eagles Sweep Midway

WILMORE, Ky. – A four run seventh and a walk-off home run by Stephanie Wade gave the Eagles the come from behind victory over Midway in game one 7-6.  Asbury went on to sweep Midway, taking game two 6-4.

Asbury (13-8, 10-4 KIAC) gave up all six runs in game one in the first inning as Midway pounded out five hits in the inning, capped off with a three-run homer by Tiffany Davis.  All runs were scored before Maris Harrled could record an out.  Harreld went on to pitch all seven innings allowing only four more hits the rest of the way.  She struck out three in earning her team-leading seventh victory of the season.

Down 7-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning the Eagles had the top of their order up.  Sarah Patrick led off the inning with a single to right and was moved to second on a groundout.  Patrick finished the day with four hits including a homerun.  Miranda Drury drove in Patrick with a double to right-center, one of Drury’s two doubles and four hits in the game.  Amber Taylor hit a pinch-hit two-run homer to right-center to tie the game.  Stephanie Wade followed with her first homer of the season to center to end the game.

In game two the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings.  Wade drove in a run in the first and Drury stole home later in the inning.  In the second Danielle Flood hit her first home run of the season.  The Eagles would score two more in the third after Midway scored once in the top of the inning. 

Drury finished the game with two more hits and two runs scored while Jessica Johnson also had two hits and two RBIs.  Johnson also got the win (4-2) after allowing three runs and 11 hits over 4.1 innings of work.  Harreld pitched the final 2.2 innings to get her first save.

Asbury now sits in second place in the KIAC, three games ahead of Midway and Berea and three games behind IUS.  The Eagles have six more conference games left in the season with doubleheaders at Alice Lloyd and Berea and a home doubleheader against Brescia on Saturday.

 Asbury will head to Pippa Passes to battle Alice Lloyd on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 pm.
