Grenadiers Hand Eagles Two Losses

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Asbury softball dropped a pair to Indiana Southeast on Wednesday in a battle of the top two teams in the KIAC.  The Eagles completed the season series 1-3 against the Grenadiers after falling 9-1 (5) and 7-5.

Asbury (11-8, 8-4 KIAC) could only manage four singles in game one as they posed a serious threat.  IUS scored built an 8-0 lead after two innings.  The Eagles scored their lone run in the fifth when Jessica Huston scored on a single by Miranda Drury, Sarah Patrick was thrown out at third on the play to end the game.

In game two Asbury had a 3-1 lead after the first inning, collecting five hits in the inning including an RBI double by Rebecca Baker and a two-run double by Jessica Johnson.  Asbury added two more in the top of the fifth as Drury and Baker hit back-to-back home runs.  IUS scored five in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

The Eagles are scheduled to host Oakland City University on Friday at 5:00 pm.
