Eagles Sweep Berea

BEREA, Ky. – The Eagles got back on the winning side of things with a doubleheader sweep over conference rival Berea on Monday night.  Asbury won the first game 9-3 and the second 3-1 to improve to 14-4 in the KIAC, securing second place in the upcoming KIAC Tournament.

Kelsey Robinson made her first start since throwing a perfect game against Alice Lloyd on April 19th in game two and allowed only one unearned run.  She gave up four hits and didn’t walk a batter in improving to 4-2 on the season and lowering her team and conference leading ERA to 1.80.  Opponents are hitting only .203 against Robinson this season which is tied for the conference lead.

The Eagles (17-10, 14-4 KIAC) never trailed in either game, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two on an RBI single by Stephanie Wade.  Brittany Warren added a run-scoring hit in the second to give Asbury a 2-0 lead.

Berea scored their lone run in the fourth after back-to-back errors with two outs allowed Harley Catron to score.  Asbury added an insurance run in the seventh after loading the bases Kendall Ratchford knocked in a run with a groundout.

In game one it was Maris Harreld scattering seven hits and striking out six while allowing three runs, only two earned.  Harreld improved to 9-5 on the season pushing her school career record to 21 wins in only her second year.

Once again the Eagles took a 1-0 first inning lead as Wade drove in Miranda Drury with a two-out single.  Wade would finish the game with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored.  Asbury added another run in the third as Emily Ethington drove home a run.  Ethington finished the game with three hits and two RBIs.

Berea would tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third as Harley Catron knocked in two with a double.  The Eagles would respond in the fifth with three runs and the sixth with four.  Rebecca Baker belted her fourth home run of the season in the fifth.  Wade drove in a run in both innings with singles and Sarah Patrick and Emily Ethington also knocked in runs in the sixth.

Asbury's scheduled doubleheader with Brescia on Tuesday has been postponed due to inclement weather.  A makeup date has not yet been determined.
