Softball Season Ends in KIAC Tournament
Owensboro, Ky. – A year after defeating Indiana Southeast to win the KIAC Tournament the Asbury Eagles failed to make it back into the title game, losing to Indiana Southeast 5-0 and Berea 10-4 in the continuation of the KIAC Tournament on Friday night.
The Eagles finished 24-11, tied with last year’s squad for the most wins in a season. Asbury simply could not get the bats going once the tournament resumed after a week off due to rain. The Eagles collected only 13 hits and four runs in the two games on Friday.
Against IUS Asbury could only manage four hits and never seriously threatened KIAC Pitcher of the Year Kayla Duke. Duke struck out 11 in seven innings. Kelsey Robinson pitched well for the Eagles, allowing only seven hits and five runs in six innings and finished her freshman campaign at 11-5.
In an elimination game against Berea the Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first but a five run fifth gave Berea the lead for good to advance to the championship game. Maris Harreld took the loss and finished at 12-5 in her first collegiate season.
The Eagles aren’t expected to lose anyone from this year’s squad as all 21 players are either freshmen or sophomores.
