St. Catharine Surprises Eagles
St. Catharine, Ky. – Asbury could not keep up with the hot bats of the Patriots as St. Catharine took a pair of games from the Eagles 12-5, and 5-4 on Monday afternoon. The Patriots combined for 30 hits in the two games, they had only 15 combined in the first meeting back in March.
Asbury (21-9) saw their team ERA jump up nearly half a run as they surrendered their most runs in any game this year in game one. The 12 runs are more than the Eagles had given up in back to back games combined all season. The Eagles offense wasn’t silent on the day as they pounded out 17 hits and nine runs in the two games.
Mary Ann Warford collected two hits in each game and was 4-7 on the day with a double, triple, RBI, stolen base and three runs scored. She’s leading the team and the KIAC with a .483 batting average this season. Emily Ethington and Brittany Warren each collected two hits in game one and Miranda Drury, Stephanie Wade, and Rebecca Baker did so in game two.
Asbury is still three wins away from tying last year’s squad with the most wins in school history and has four regular season games remaining. The Eagles will head to Owensboro on Saturday to face Brescia University in their KIAC finale and can assure themselves of at least the second seed in the KIAC Tournament with a split. Asbury will finish regular season play at Georgetown on Monday April 26th at 5:00pm.
