Softball Sweeps Brescia, Set for KIAC Tournament
Owensboro, Ky. – Asbury’s softball secured the second seed in the upcoming KIAC Tournament with a sweep of Brescia University on Monday evening. The 9-4 and 10-5 victories give the Eagles a bye in the first round of the six team tournament.
Asbury (23-9, 16-4 KIAC) had eight extra base hits in the two games including a home run each from Miranda Drury and Emily Ethington. The duo also picked up a double each in game one. Maris Harreld drove in five runs total in the two games and also picked up the win in game two with six strikeouts.
The Eagles fell behind early in each game before mounting a late rally. Asbury scored 13 of their 19 runs in the fifth inning or later. Kelsey Robinson pitched a complete game in game one to improve to 11-4, the identical record of Harreld. Robinson only struck out one but only allowed two earned runs and seven hits.
Asbury will face the winner of Brescia-Alice Lloyd on Friday at 4:00 pm central time at Kamuf Park in Owensboro, Kentucky. The KIAC Tournament is a double-elimination tournament to be played Friday and Saturday. Asbury is one win shy of last year’s school record of 24.
