Asbury Splits With Mighty Oaks

Game One | Game Two

Oakland City, Ind. – Asbury split two games with Oakland City on Thursday, dropping the first game 6-5 before coming back to win the second game 3-1.  The Eagles were in control for all but one inning in both games, but the Mighty Oaks hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh for their lone lead on the day.

Asbury (5-1) continued to jump on opponents early by scoring two runs in the top of the first in game one.  Kendall Ratchford led off the game with a single and a stolen base, followed by Mary Ann Warford’s single and stolen base.  Three batters later Stephanie Wade and then Molly Knight would both single in a run.  Asbury would add a run in the third before two more in the seventh as Maris Harreld drove in a pair with a double.

In the circle Harreld only allowed one run in her first six innings of work, a solo home run in the sixth, but in the seventh Harreld started to lose command as she walked two and hit a batter to load the bases.  Stephanie Wade (0-1) replaced Harreld and after an error and a sacrifice fly got a ground out.  The Eagles were one out from the win but a three run homer off the bat of Kelsey Davis gave Asbury their first loss of the season.

The Eagles would again score first in the second game, adding a run in the second and the third.  Molly Knight got it started with a single and moved to second on an error.  With two outs Sarah Greenwood drove in Knight with a single.  In the third Emily Ethington drew a two-out walk before Mirranda Drury blasted a triple to give the Eagles a 2-0 cushion.  After Oakland City scored in the bottom of the fifth Asbury would add an insurance run in the sixth as Molly Knight singled in Ethington who led off the inning with a double.  On the day Knight was 4-7 with three RBIs and one run scored.

Kelsey Robinson (2-0) shut down the Mighty Oaks throughout the game, only allowing four hits in the complete game victory.  Robinson struck out only two but didn’t walk anyone in her first complete game of the season.

Asbury is scheduled to host Ohio Christian on Saturday March 13th at 3:00 pm for a double-header and then host Mid-Continent on Monday March 15th at 5:00 pm for another double-header.
