Eagles Drop Two to Cumberlands

Wilmore, KY---The Asbury College softball team struggled to keep leads in losing both games to the University of the Cumberlands 7-2 and 9-6 on Friday night.  The Eagles grabbed a 2-0 lead in game one before a seven run 6th gave Cumberlands the victory.  Asbury again held a 5-0 lead in game two after two innings and again 6-5 after four before giving up two both the 5th and 6th.

 

Asbury (3-3) could only muster 10 hits in the two games while Cumberlands smacked 28 in both games.  Asbury couldn't take advantage of three Patriot errors in the first game and two more in game two. 

Sarah Greenwood led the team with three hits and one RBI on the day while DHing and playing 2b and 3b on the day.  Mirranda Drury knocked in two with a single in game two before leaving the game after sliding awkwardly into second trying to stretch it into a double.

Asbury pitchers struggled in both games, Carrie Wilderman ended up getting both loses after starting game one and coming in and pitching three innings in game two.  Asbury gave up 16 runs in two games and 13 were earned, 9 earned runs were charged to Wilderman and 4 to Stephanie Wade. 

Asbury will be on the road Saturday March 7 at 1:30pm against Concord University in Athens, West Virginia.
