Softball Opens Up With Win

Willisamsburg, KY---The Asbury College Softball team earned their first win in their return season to the diamond in a double-header split with University of the Cumberlands Saturday February 21st in Williamsburg, Kentucky.  The Eagles dropped game one 3-1 but rebounded and won game two 1-0.

Asbury (1-1) got an outstanding pitching performance from freshmen Stephanie Wade in game two, scattering 10 hits in the complete game shutout.  Wade also struck out three and walked three.  Game one starter Carrie Wilderman pitched just as well in game one, pitching all six innings giving up only seven hits and three runs.  Wilderman wouldn't get much from her defense as the Eagles committed seven errors in the game.

Offensively freshmen shortstop Emily Ethington provided the pop by going 4-for-6 on the day including driving home April Lancaster for the only run in game two.  Leadoff hitter Mary Ann Watford picked up two hits in game one and was instantly a pest on the base paths, stealing three bases on the day.

Sarah Greenwood picked up three hits in three at-bats in her game two start at second base.  Mirranda Drury picked up two hits as well and scored the only run in game one.

The Eagles will open up the home portion of the schedule Thursday February 26th at 5pm against St. Catharine College.
