Eagles Qualify For NCCAA National Tournament
Wilmore, KY---The Asbury College men had little trouble in qualifying for the NCCAA National Tournament, defeating Cincinnati Christian 94-60 on Thursday night. Asbury was up by 14 at the half 50-36 and outscored CCU by 20 in the second half.
Asbury (19-12) was led by senior Michael Spann's 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Spann also led the team with eight rebounds. Sophomore Phillip Morrison scored 14 points, and junior Brian Johnson added 10. Junior T.J. Chinn added 11 off the bench including three 3's and junior Jordan Noble added 10. All told 12 Eagles scored in the game as Asbury shot 56% for the game. The Eagles connected 10-of-22 from 3-point range.
Asbury won the rebounding battle 44 to 37 and held CCU to only 36% shooting on the night. The Eagles handed out 20 assists with Spann and sophomore Cory Britt leading the way with four each.
Asbury will represent the Mid-East Region at the NCCAA National Tournament in Oakland City, Indiana March 19-21. The rest of the field has yet to be named check back for seeding and first round opponent in the coming days.
