Eagles Fall to IUS
New Albany, IN---The Asbury College men's basketball team dropped their KIAC opener to defending champion IU Southeast on Saturday January 17 75-62. The Eagles fell to 12-6 overall and 0-1 in the KIAC while IUS improved to 14-6 overall and 4-0 in the KIAC, after going a perfect 9-0 last season.
Asbury was down only five at halftime, 34-29 in spite of shooting 35% in the 1st half and only hitting 5-of-13 from the free throw line. The Eagles missed five straight from the charity stripe when they were down only four in the first half.
Sophomore Jordan Hammonds led the team with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting in only his second game of the season. Senior Michael Spann scored 13 but shot only 4-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-8 from the free throw line. Junior Brian Johnson joined them in double figures with 10.
Spann led the team with eight rebounds, with the Eagles out rebounded 48-32 for the game. IUS had three different players record 10 or more rebounds. IUS grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.
Asbury will return home on Tuesday January 20 to host Alice Lloyd in a girls/guys doubleheader. The girls tip-off at 6 with the guys to follow at approximately 8. Both the girls and guys will be collecting Bibles during the games that will be distributed to people in downtown Lexington.
