James Aller
Head Coach, Men's Basketball
Jim Aller enters his thirteenth season at the helm of Asbury's basketball program in 2006-07. Aller has the distinction of being the "dean of coaches" in the state of Kentucky, holding the longest-running coaching position at a four-year college within the state. Aller owns 182 victories in his twelve seasons, averaging just over 15 wins per season.
The program has grown dramatically under his direction as the 2005-06 team posted the sixth consecutive winning season in the 15-year history of men's basketball. The program's best year came in 2001-02 with Aller at the helm. The team compiled a 25-10 record, earning a Top 25 ranking (NAIA) and finished fifth at the NCCAA National Championships. Aller was named the 2002 NCCAA National Coach of the Year. Over the years, his teams have produced five first-team NCCAA All-Americans. Aller has earned accolades within the KIAC by being named the 2005 Coach of the Year in the conference.
Aller is a 1989 graduate of The King's College where he earned a BS in Business Administration. Aller played four years of baseball and three of basketball while at King's. After graduation, Aller spent one year playing for the Washington Generals, who accompanied the Harlem Globetrotters on a worldwide tour.
Aller earned his M.Ed. in Sport Management from Springfield College in 1992. He then returned to his alma mater where he served in various positions including: sports information director, women's softball coach, and assistant men's basketball coach.
Aller has also taken on additional duties on and off the court. The basketball program has carried a junior varsity squad since the 1998-99 season. In 2004-05, he served as the interim athletic director while continuing to hold a teaching position in the department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (HPERA). Aller is also the current National Chair for NCCAA Division I Men's Basketball as well as serving as a rater for the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Top 25.
Aller and his wife, Faith, reside in Wilmore.
