Schley, Miller Repeat With KIAC Top Honors
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Asbury sophomore Nathan Schley was named KIAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year for the second straight year by league coaches. Asbury placed five on the All-Conference team for the second straight year and head coach Jarred Miller was named Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
The Eagles ran through the KIAC undefeated for the second straight year, amassing a 6-0 record and are 14-3 overall. Asbury is 11-0 in the KIAC in the last two years and looks to defend their tournament title this weekend. The Eagles won the KIAC regular season and tournament titles a year ago and have won the regular season for the second year in a row.
Schley has never lost a match, singles or doubles, in the KIAC in his two years. The sophomore turned in a 6-0 singles and doubles record this year in league play after going 5-0 in 2012. Overall he is 16-5 in singles play this year and 17-4 in doubles action, 16-4 with Scott Layton.
Layton is also on the All-KIAC team for the second straight year, joining Stephen Woods as a repeat selection. Sophomore Nesbert Vaval is making his first appearance after joining the team in January. Justin Westlund is making his second appearance on the team, first since 2011.
The Eagles will take on Indiana Southeast in the KIAC Tournament semifinals today at 3:45 pm in New Albany. The finals are set for Saturday at 10 am. Live stats for all matches involving Asbury in the KIAC Tournament can be found here.
