Asbury Tennis Rolls Over Oakland City
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury tennis continued their dominating winning ways on Thursday, defeating Oakland City 9-0 for the second time this season. The Eagles have won two straight matches by a 9-0 margin.
Asbury improves to 11-3 on the season while Oakland City falls to 1-7. The Eagles defeated the Mighty Oaks 9-0 in Oakland City back on March 28.
On Thursday the Eagles flexed their muscle early by dominating the doubles matches. Asbury lost only three games in the three matches. Nathan Schley and Scott Layton won at number one 8-2 while Nesbert Vaval and Stephen Woods won at number two 8-1. Daniel Harris and Justin Westlund didn’t drop a game in winning 8-0.
Singles play was a similar story to Wednesday’s match with Indiana East. The Eagles didn’t drop a set and lost only 18 games in 12 sets. Nick Streibick replaced Justin Westlund in the lineup at number six and defeated Kelsey Rowland 6-0, 6-1 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The normal top five were all winners as well as Schley won 6-0, 7-5 and Layton won 6-1, 6-0. Nesber Vaval won at number three 6-3, 6-3 and Woods won 6-0, 6-1. Daniel Harris got back to .500 on the season at 6-6 after a 6-1, 6-3 victory at number five. Every AU player is now .500 or better in singles play on the season.
The Eagles will close out KIAC play this weekend, first taking on fellow unbeaten Brescia on Friday at 2 pm. Asbury will head to St. Louis Pharmacy on Saturday to finish out league play. The Eagles are searching for their second straight undefeated KIAC regular season and second straight KIAC regular season title.
