Tennis Falls to Third Top-20 Team
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Asbury men’s tennis dropped their second straight to a top-20 NAIA team in No. 16 Campbellsville on Wednesday, falling 8-1. The Eagles are 9-3 overall as CU improves to 7-8.
Asbury’s lone win came at number one doubles as Nathan Schley and Scott Layton defeated Michael Rjazanov and Sebastian Marot 8-3. The duo of Schley and Layton improve to 11-4 on the season. In other doubles action the Eagles dropped close matches, losing 8-4 at number two and 8-5 at number three.
In singles play the Eagles again were much more competitive than against Lindsey Wilson on Monday. Schley lost 7-5, 6-3 to Rjazanov and Layton fell 6-4, 6-3 to Marot. Stephen Woods played a tight first set in losing 6-4, 6-1 to Pontus Blom and Justin Westlund fell 6-2, 6-3 to Austin Spalding.
The Eagles will jump back into KIAC action on Tuesday when they host Indiana East at 4 p.m.
