Eagles Win Third Straight
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury tennis won their third straight on Monday, defeating Oakland City 7-2. The Eagles have won 10 matches for only the third time in school history and can match the school record of 12 wins with their final two regular season matches this week.
For the second time this season the Eagles defeated the Mighty Oaks, after also beating them 6-3 back in March. Just like in that March 31st match the Eagles lost at number two doubles and number three singles, but this time around Stephen Woods defeated Sergio Petre in three sets. Woods improved to 6-7 on the season after the 6-7, 6-2, 10-7 victory.
The top of the Eagles lineup continues to steamroll opponents as Nathan Schley and Scott Layton won at number one and number two 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-2 respectively. Schley has won six straight matches and leads the team with a 12-3 record. Layton has won five of the last six and is 11-5 on the season.
On Monday Daniel Harris and Justin Westlund won in the bottom two singles spots, 6-1, 6-1 for Harris at number five and 6-0, 6-0 for Westlund at number six. Westlund and Woods paired together to win number three doubles 8-1.
The Eagles will look to claim the KIAC Regular Season Title outright on Wednesday as they travel to Indiana East for a 1:00 p.m. match.
