Eagles Cruise by Berea
BEREA, Ky. – Asbury tennis won their second straight on Wednesday night, defeating KIAC foe Berea College 9-0. The Eagles improved to 5-2 this spring and 7-5 overall. They are a perfect 2-0 in KIAC action.
Asbury did not drop a set in singles action, dropping only 12 games to the Mountaineers in the process. Nathan Schley and Scott Layton were victorious at the top two singles spots with identical 6-1, 6-0 scores. Schley improves to 8-3 while Layton moves to 8-4, they are the top two singles winners on the season.
Braun Applegate had the toughest match in singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Gil Bagang at the third spot. Applegate wins for the first time in four matches and improves to 3-7. Stephen Woods won at the four spot to improve to 3-6 on the season as Daniel Harris won at number five to move to 5-7. Tim Eastridge made his first singles appearance on the season at number six, winning 6-0, 6-1.
The doubles lineup was moved around as Schley and Applegate were paired together for the first time this season. The duo were flawless, taking the match 8-0 over Corey Lowery and Diego Moya. Also paired for the first time were Layton and Harris at number two where they were winners 8-1. Justin Westlund and James Banter were winners at number three 8-3.
The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday as they host Georgetown College at 4 p.m. Asbury lost to the Tigers back in the fall 6-3.
