Eagles Win Second Straight

WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury defeated College of Mt. St. Joseph for the second time this season, 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon.  It was the Eagles’ second straight victory and third in their last four matches.

Asbury (8-4) surpasses last season’s victory total with the win.  The Eagles once again swept the doubles portion of the match, winning 8-4, 8-0 and 8-1.  Graham Howell and Taylor Wise stay unbeaten at 11-0, 9-0 in the third position.  Justin Westlund and Nick Nozell improve to 8-3 while Curran Howell and Braun Applegate inch closer to .500 at 5-6.

The Howell brothers along with Wise, Nozell and Westlund all won in singles.  Graham Howell has won two straight after a three set victory despite dropping the first set 6-2.  Howell rebounded to win the second 6-2 forcing a third which he won 10-5.  Curran Howell won 6-0, 6-4.  The bottom half of singles cruised to victory, dropping only four games in six combined sets.

Asbury will finish their regular season with a home match against Indiana Southeast on Saturday April 23rd at 12:00 pm.  The Eagles are locked in to the third spot in the KIAC heading into the conference tournament in Owensboro on April 29-30.
