Eagles Rebound Against Indiana East
RICHMOND, Ind. – Asbury tennis bounced back after a loss on Saturday to Brescia by beating Indiana East 8-1 on Monday. The Eagles match their season win total from a year ago at 7-4 this year and 4-3 in the KIAC.
Asbury won every match on Monday except for number three singles. Graham Howell snapped a personal five match losing streak at the number one spot with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Justin Judd. Braun Applegate only dropped one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win at the two spot.
Curran Howell, Nick Nozell and Just Westlund all won easily in the four, five and six spots. Westlund remains undefeated in conference matches at 6-0 and is 8-1 overall in his first year with the program. Taylor Wise lost in the three spot in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 1-0.
The Eagles took all three doubles matches as the duo of Wise and Graham Howell remain undefeated on the season after a 8-2 victory in the second position. It was only their second time playing in the two slot after playing eight matches at number three. Westlund and Nozeel improved to 7-3 overall after a dominating 8-1 victory at number three. Applegate and Curran Howell won at number one 8-4 to improve to 4-6 overall.
The Eagles are back in action at home on Wednesday afternoon to host College of Mt. St. Joseph at 4:30 pm. Asbury won the previous match this season 6-3 in Cincinnati.
