Eagles Drop Second Straight
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury dropped their second straight KIAC match 6-3 on Saturday to Brescia University. The Eagles had won five in a row before the recent losing streak.
Asbury (5-3) won two of their three matches by default as Brescia had only five players. That meant Justin Westlund won number six singles, where he is now 5-0 and 6-1 overall. Graham Howell and Taylor Wise also stay perfect at number three doubles, moving to 7-0 as a team.
Curran Howell was the only other winner for the Eagles, taking number five singles 6-2, 6-2 over Darren Smith. Howell, playing in the fifth spot for the first time this season, improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the KIAC.
The Eagles nearly pulled off the victory as three matches could have gone the Eagles’ way. In number one doubles Curran Howell and Braun Applegate lost 9-7 and at number two Justin Westlund and Nick Nozell lost 8-5. Nozell nearly won his singles match, playing at number four, losing 7-5, 7-6.
The Eagles will look to sweep the season series against Berea as they take on the Mountaineers on Tuesday at 5:00 pm at Berea.
