Asbury Tops Mountaineers, Stops Skid
BEREA, Ky. – Asbury bounced back with a conference victory over Berea 8-1 after a two game losing streak. The Eagles nearly swept the Mountaineers, dropping only number one singles in three sets.
Asbury (6-3, 3-2 KIAC) swept the doubles portion of the match, as the team of Graham Howell and Taylor Wise remain perfect on the season at 8-0 after an 8-2 victory in the number three spot. Braun Applegate and Curran Howell won at the top spot 8-3 and Justin Westlund and Nick Nozell won at number two 8-6.
The only singles match the Eagles dropped was the top spot as Graham Howell dropped the last two sets 7-5 after winning the opener 6-4. Applegate, Wise, Curran Howell, and Nozell were all easy winners playing at number two, three, five and six respectively. Justin Westlund continues his perfect conference record (5-0) and improved to 7-1 overall after a three set victory (6-2, 6-7, 6-4), playing in the number three position for the first time this year.
