Depth Key as Tennis Wins 3rd Straight

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Asbury’s men’s tennis team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 6-3 victory over NCAA III College of Mount Saint Joseph on Monday afternoon.  The Eagles have won three straight matches.  They are scheduled to play three more this week.

Asbury won two out of three doubles matches as the duo of Curran Howell and Taylor Wise improved to 3-0 on the season after an 8-5 victory in the number three slot.  At number two doubles Nick Nozell and Justin Westlund won 8-3, improving to 2-1 this season.

In singles Asbury’s depth showed as they won at number two and swept the four through six spots.  Braun Applegate won at the two spot with a straight sets 6-4, 6-1 victory, improving to 3-1 this season.  Wise, Nozell, and Westlund all won from four through six respectively.  Wise is the only Eagle to play in more than one match and stay unbeaten at 3-0.  Nozell and Westlund each improved to 2-1 on the year.

The Eagles are scheduled to host three matches this week beginning on Thursday at 4:00 pm as they welcome Oakland City.  They will also play home matches on Friday at 1:00 pm and Saturday at 10:00 am against Indiana East and Greenville College.
