The Asbury College Athletics Department along with the men's tennis team is pleased to announce the signing of Junior College transfer Michael Smith from Central Alabama Community College. Michael will have two years remaining when he joins Coach Jarred Miller's squad in the fall of 2009.

Smith originally from Pleasant Grove, Alabama, played high school tennis at Pleasant Grove High School and was the #1 singles champion in Jefferson County. He played varsity tennis for six years on the high school level.

As a freshmen at Central Alabama Smith played as the #4 singles and #3 doubles team, paired with Edward Baldwin, who made it to the NJCAA quarterfinals at the National Tournament in Texas.

Central Alabama is currently ranked 18th in the Junior College Team rankings and Smith is ranked 82nd in singles and 37th in doubles.

Coach Jarred Miller is excited to add an experienced player to the mix. "I'm very excited to have Michael joining our team. The fact that he has already played tennis on the college level, and at a very high level, will help our team tremendously. He has a very high motor and a strong work ethic that will help him compete immediately."
