Swimming Captures Two Senior Day Victories
WILMORE, Ky. - Senior day at the pool proved to be victorious for both the men and women swim teams against Urbana University on Saturday afternoon.
The women dominated the races as many of the Eagles' swimmers finished their events in first. Kayley Valentein (1650 free; 100 free; 500 free), Caitlin Gagnon (200 IM) and Katie Duncan (100 Back) all scored first place points for the Eagles along with the women’s 200 freestyle relay - Abby Oberholtzer, Kimberly Gabriel, Claire Houlton and Katie Bures.
The women finished with an overpowering score of 127, leaving Urbana with a score of 66.
The men’s battle was neck and neck as the meet came down to the final 200 freestyle relay. Asbury had to win this relay in order to take the victory. Fortunately, the Eagles’ anchor, Cody Barnes, glided to the finish line less than two seconds before Urbana as Asbury clinched the win. The relay team included Friend Bechtel, Jacob Courey, Jimmy Hall and Barnes.
Other first place wins for the men went to Barnes (50 free; 100 free) and Tommy Otley (100 Breast). The men finished the meet with 103 allowing Urbana 91.
Both men and women conclude their season with a win. Their next race will be on February 13th, in Christiansburg, Virginia at the Appalachian Swim Conference meet.
