Men Win, Women Lose Against Union at Home
WILMORE, Ky. - The men's swim team was desperately looking for a team win through four head-to-head matchups to open the season. Last night they got a win over St. Catharine, 76-0, and continued that success into Saturday as they downed Union College 151-107 to push their record to 2-4 on the season.
The women put up solid individual efforts in multiple events but came up on the short side of the win column as a team, falling to the Bulldogs, 136-122.
The Eagles continue to excel in the pool individually, and as relay teams, as they again had multiple swimmers qualify for the National meet in February.
On the men's side the 200 medley relay team, led by Cody Barnes' strong finish, came from behind after three swimmers to beat the Bulldogs by nearly a full second.
Both the men's and women's 800 free relay teams qualified for NAIA's with times of 7:21.64 and 8:25.11, respectively. Graham Duncan turned in his Nationals qualifying time in the 200 Free with the lead off in that relay of 1:48.45.
Friend Bechtel qualified for two events at the National meet with times of 54.57 and 2:01.15 in the 100 and 200 backstroke, respectively.
On the women's side Sara Henderson (11:31.31) and Kayley Valentien (11:31.49) went 1-2 in the 1000 Free and Katie Duncan qualified for another event with her 1:02.41 in the 100 Backstroke.
The Eagles get nearly two weeks off as they host Milligan College and Campbellsville University on Friday November 15. The meet will be held here in Wilmore at the Luce Center and is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
