Four Qualify for Nationals in Home Wins, Men Get First Win
WILMORE, Ky. - Abby Oberholtzer, Kayley Valentien, Tommy Otley and Cody Barnes each qualified for the NAIA meet in a home meet with Brenau and St. Catharine Friday night.
The women swimming against St. Catharine and Brenau cruised to a win against St. Catharine 84-7. The competition seemed steeper against Brenau as the Eagles fell by a team score of 59-35.
The men swam only against St. Catharine and took a clean sweep in all the events, not allowing the visitors to score even a single point, 76-0.
Individually the Eagles turned in a strong showing from both teams.
Abby Oberholtzer qualified for the NAIA National meet with a 25.62 in the 50 free event. She placed second in the event behind Brenau's Michelle Billeaud.
Kayley Valentien qualified for yet another event in the NAIA National meet by posting a time of 2:33.63 in the 200 Breast. She, too, took second, just about one second behind Brenau's Mary Katherine Jabbia.
On the men's side both Tommy Otley and Cody Barnes qualified for Nationals' events. Otley qualified in the 400 IM with a 4:22.14 and Barnes can go via his 21.80 in the 50 Free.
The Eagles are back at it again tomorrow as they welcome Union College to the Luce to take on the Bulldogs at 1 p.m.
