Swim Teams Open 2013-13 With Home Tri Meet
WILMORE, Ky. - The 2013-14 season kicked off for the Eagles' men's and women's swimming squads as they hosted Bellarmine University and the University of Indianapolis.
Indianapolis and Bellarmine got the best of the Eagles on opening day but the Eagles swimmers still put up a solid showing.
In the first event of the day, the women's 200 medley relay turned in a National Championship qualifying performance with a time of 2:02.37. Later on in the day, another women's relay team--the 400 Free-- qualified for Nationals too as they finished with a time of 3:55.62.
Kayley Vanlentien, Tommy Otley, and siblings Katie and Graham Duncan turned in the best performances of the day for the Eagles, according to head coach Alex Keyser.
Valentien took home two fourth place finishes on the day-- one in the 200 IM and one in the 1000 Free. She was also part of the 400 Free team, alongside Katie Duncan, that qualified for Nationals.
Duncan turned in perhaps the strongest races of the day for the Eagles with second place finishes in both the 100 Backstroke (1:03.59) and the 200 Backstroke (2:18.50).
On the men's side, Graham Duncan's best race came in the 500 Free where he garnered the third spot for a 5:05.51 performance. He also took fourth in the 200 Free and sixth in the 200 IM. As a part of a relay team, Duncan finished fourth in the 400 Free.
Tommy Otley turned in the other noteworthy performance for the Eagles. Also participating four events on the day, Otley swam to a second place finish in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:18.85. In his other events, Otley took two fourth-place finishes and a fifth.
The Eagles return to the pool October 25th against Transylvania here in the Luce Center. The first event is slated for 6 p.m.
