Men Win, Women Second at Centre Invitational
DANVILLE, Ky. – Daniel Bowman and Trevor Ehrenheim tied for the top individual scorers at the Colonel Classic hosted by Centre College over the weekend. The Eagles were first of six teams on the men’s side as the women finished second out of seven teams.
Ehrenheim won the 400 IM (4:27.68) and the 200 back (1:59.02) on Saturday. He won the 200 IM (2:02.07) on Friday night. The Eagles took the top four spots in the 200 IM on Friday as Jimmy Hall, Friend Bechtel and Stuart Iverson rounded out the field. Asbury also won both relays on Friday night, taking the 200 free relay in 1:29.55 and the 400 medley relay in 3:43.09. Asbury won the 400 free relay (3:17.24) on Saturday and finished second in the 200 medley (1:41.39) and the 800 free (7:29.40)
Bowman was also a winner in three individual events, taking the 500 free (4:57.43) on Friday night. Graham Duncan placed second in that event with a time of 5:01.50. Bowman came back on Saturday to win the 1650 free (17:04.63) and the 200 fly (2:01.54). Duncan again finished behind Bowman in the 1650 (4th) and the 200 fly (3rd).
Cody Barnes was the only other individual winner for the men, taking the 100 breast in 1:01.65. Hall finished third in the event. In the 200 breast those two would flip as Hall finished second (2:20.38) and Barnes taking third but just five-tenths of a second.
Freshman Kayley Valentien was the leader for the women, placing third in the 200 (2:20.32) and 400 IM (4:57.68) events. She went on to take fourth in the 1650 free (19:13.93). Katie Duncan and Rebecca Landry each had two top-four finishes. Duncan took second in the 100 back (1:03.89) and fourth in the 200 back (2:20.53). Landry placed third in the 200 breast (2:45.36) and fourth in the 100 breast (1:14.84). Freshman Caitlin Gagnon took fourth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:24.76.
Asbury found consistent success in the relay events, finishing third or fourth in all five events. The 200 medley was the lone event the Eagles took fourth in with a time of 2:00.96. The 200 free (1:47.33), 400 medley (4:18.19), 800 free (8:36.53) and 400 free (3:51.86) teams all took third.
