Eagles Complete Day One at Brenau Invite

SwimmingGAINESVILLE, Ga. – Asbury men are second and the women are third at the Brenau Invitational after one day of competition.  The men’s field includes nine teams while the women’s side has 10 total teams.

On the women’s side the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay teams both finished fourth as the 200 free team of Katie Duncan, Abby Oberholtzer, Ranay Ray and Taryn Albright swam a 1:43.27.  The 400 medley team of Ray, Albright, Duncan and Sarah Fredrickson turned in a time of 4:10.30.  The Eagles placed four in the top-16 of the 500 free as Kayley Valentien placed seventh with a time of 5:24.35.  Liz Bowman placed 10th in the event as Cali Thomas and Sara Henderson took 13th and 15th place.  Caitlin Gagnon took ninth place in the 200 IM and four were in the top-16 of the 50 free.  Abby Oberholtzer was the highest finisher in the 50 free at 10th place.  Katie Duncan was 11th and Albright took 14th while Ruth Klein tied for 16th.

The men’s 200 free relay squad placed second as Cody Barnes, Jake Courey, Pat Armstrong and Trevor Ehrenheim turned in a 1:27.63.   Second was the place of the night for the Eagles as the team turned in three second place individual finishers.  Danny Bowman was second in the 500 free with a 4:50.13, Jimmy Hall took second in the 200 IM with a 2:00.39 and Pat Armstrong was second in the 50 free with a 22.21.

The Eagles’ depth was on display on the night as well.  In addition to Bowman, three others placed in the top-10 in the 500 free.  Graham Duncan and Nolan Houlton took sixth and eighth while Friend Bechtel was 10th.  In the 200 IM Ehrenheim was fifth and Stuart Iverson placed eighth.  Cody Barnes took fifth in the 50 free as Jake Courey and Nathan Runtas were 14th and 16th.

The invitational will commence on Saturday with two sessions.  The first will begin at 9am and the final session will begin around 4pm.
