Swimmers Defeat Transy
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Asbury swimming carried their success from Friday into Saturday’s dual meet with Transylvania University and came away with a win on both the men’s and women’s side. The men won every event for the third straight year against the Pioneers and improve to 3-1 in dual meets.
The final score of the men’s portion of the meet was 132-75 in favor of Asbury. Trevor Ehrenheim was the only new national cut on the day, making the time in the 200 backstroke with a 2:00.61 swim. Ehrenheim also went on to win the 100 back in 55 seconds flat and was part of the 200 medley relay team that finished with the top time at 1:29.13.
Danny Bowman won three races on the day, taking the 1000 free in 10:31.50, the 500 free in 5:00.53 and the 200 fly in 2:01.90. Graham Duncan won both the 100 fly and the 200 IM on the day as eight different men won a race for the Eagles. Other winners included Jake Courey in the 200 free, Cody Barnes in the 100 breast, Tyler Decker in the 50 free, Pat Armstrong in the 100 free and Jimmy Hall in the 200 breast.
On the women’s side it was a much closer meet as the women pulled out the win 149-122. Caitlin Gagnon made the only new national cut, making it in the 200 fly in 2:17.98, just barely losing the race by .65 of a second.
Cali Thomas won two races for the Eagles, taking the 200 and 500 free events. The sophomore posted a 2:07.94 in the 200 and a 5:40.53 in the 500. Liz Bowman made a clean sweep in the distance events, taking the 1000 free in 11:23.52. Katie Duncan also went on to win the 100 back in 1:03.13.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend, hosting Lindsey Wilson on Friday before travelling to Union on Saturday.
