Three Swimmers Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Three Asbury University swimmers were named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women’s At-Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  This award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.  

Senior Larissa Martin, junior Trevor Ehrenheim and sophomore Taryn Albright were all named to the District 4 All-District College Division 1^st Team.  To be eligible for this award student-athletes must be at least a sophomore and hold a 3.3 GPA.

Martin was named NAIA All-American Honorable Mention after placing 4^th at nationals in the 200 Butterfly.  She went on to place 11^th in the 400 IM and took part in the 400 Free Relay team that placed 9^th and the 800 Free Relay team that placed 10^th.  Martin (Paris, Ky.), an English major with a 3.71 GPA, was also a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-American in the 200 Butterfly and was an honorable mention selection in the 400 IM, 400 Free Relay and 800 Free Relay.

Ehrenheim was a three-time CSCAA All-American HM in 2012, placing 10^th at the NAIA National Championships in the 200 Backstroke.  The junior from Owensboro was also 12^th in the 400 IM and part of the 400 Free Relay team that took 10^th.  He is a Business Management major and posted a 3.54 GPA at the time of the nomination.

Albright, a sophomore Creative Writing major, was a four-time CSCAA All-American HM with her best individual finish in the 100 Butterfly as she took 9^th place.  She was also part of the 400 Medley Relay that placed 9^th and the 200 Free Relay that placed 10^th.  Albright (Snohomish, Wash.) also placed 13^th in the 200 IM.  She posted a 3.67 GPA at the time of nomination.

This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

Asbury is part of District 4 in the College Division which includes all NAIA and Junior Colleges in the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisana and Arkansas.

The At-Large designation includes 13 women’s sports (Bowling, Crew, Fencing, Field Hockey, Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Rifle, Skiing, Swimming, Tennis and Water Polo) and 12 men’s sports (Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Rifle, Skiing, Swimming, Tennis and Water Polo).

The Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
