Eagles Race Past Union
WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury swimmers picked up a big win on Saturday as both the men and the women defeated Union College (Ky.) in a dual meet. The men won by a score of 145-114 and the women won 167-93.
The women won eight of the 15 races on the day including the 200 medley relay by nearly ten seconds over Union. Asbury’s “A” and “B” squads would both finish ahead of the Bulldogs. The women would go on to win seven of the 13 individual races.
Elizabeth Johns would take both distance races, the 100 free in 11:05.49 and the 500 free in 5:30.49. She would win the 1000 by nearly 30 seconds. Larissa Meadows and Larissa Martin would each win two races on the day. Meadows would take both the 100 and 200 breast in times of 1:11.47 and 2:36.12. Martin would win the 200 fly and the 400 IM in times of 2:19.96 and 4:55.76.
Taryn Albright would be the other winner for the girls, taking the 100 fly in 1:01.28. Katie Duncan would make the NAIA Nationals cut in the 200 back with a time of 2:16.50. Union’s Callie Harrigan would win the race with a 2:15.13.
The men would be led by Danny Bowman. The sensational sophomore would win all three individual races he swam. He would first take the 200 free in 1:47.14 and follow that up with the 200 fly in 1:58.97. Bowman would also win the 500 free in 4:50.91.
Trevor Ehrenheim and Pat Armstrong would also have a strong meet, each winning two events. Ehrenheim would take the 200 back and the 400 IM in times of 2:00.33 and 4:26.94. Armstrong would win the 11 back and the 100 fly in times of 54.29 and 55.63. The men won seven of the 15 races on the day.
Freshman Cody Barnes would set a school record in the 100 breast, posting a 1:01.46 which breaks the previous record of 1:01.62 set by Will Sallee in 2009. Union’s Luis Ambrosio Filho would win the race by posting a 1:00.78.
The Eagles will head to Crawfordsvill, Ind. to take part in the Woehnker Invitational hosted by Wabash College on November 18-19. They return home for the Asbury Invitational on December 2-3.
