Men, Women Sit in 10th at NAIA Nationals
ST. PETERS, Mo. – Asbury’s men’s and women’s swimming teams sit in 10th place heading in to the final day of competition at the NAIA National Meet. The men are currently three points out of the ninth and the women sit 16 points behind ninth place.
The women had someone qualify in five of the seven events on the day and narrowly missing out on the 200 free finals as Larissa Meadows finished 17th at the morning prelims by .22 after posting a time of 1:09.23.
The only “A” finals the team made on the day were both the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay. The 200 free relay team of Allie Hubach, Ellen Worsham, Katie Duncan, and Sarah Ritter qualified 7th with a 1:39.16 and came back in the finals to place 6th with a 1:39.02. The 400 medley relay of Duncan, Meadows, Taryn Albright, and Ritter qualified 6th and finished 8th with a time of 4:03.20.
Ritter and Albright continued their impressive freshmen campaigns with a 9th and 11th place finish in the 100 fly. The duo qualified in a tie for 9th with a 58.82 before Ritter posted a 58.63 and Albright a 59.04 in the finals. Fellow freshmen Katie Duncan placed 16th in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.70 after qualifying 11th. Sophomore Ranay Ray placed 14th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:42.83.
The men were rather quiet on this day, making the finals in only three events. Matt Hood just missed out on the 200 free finals after placing 17th in the prelims.
Trevor Ehrenheim was the only individual finalist on the day for the Eagles, making the “B” final of the 400 IM. Ehrenheim qualified 15th and placed 15th in the finals with a time of 4:11.08.
The men would place at the top of the “B” finals in both relays on the day, taking 10th in the 200 free relay and 9th in the 400 medley relay. The 200 free relay team of Tyler Decker, Chris Lipka, Pat Armstrong, and Matt Hood put in a finals time of 1:27.08 after swimming a 1:27.91 in the prelims and qualifying 9th. The 400 medley relay team of Armstrong, Ehrenheim, Hood, and Daniel Bowman qualified and finished 9th, posting a 3:29.61 in the finals.
Saturday wraps up the meet with six more events for the men and six for the women. The prelims will start at 11:00 am eastern with the finals set for 7:00 pm. The events scheduled are the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free relay.
