Men Take Down Cumberlands

WILMORE, Ky. – For the first time in school history Asbury’s men’s swimming team beat University of the Cumberlands in dual meet action on Saturday.  The men finish 6-1 in dual meets on the season after the 110-94 victory over the Patriots.

Three men led the charge for the Eagles, freshman Daniel Bowman, sophomore Trevor Ehrenheim, and senior Matt Hood.  Those three combined to win six of the nine individual races and were three of the four members of the winning 400-yard Medley Relay team, Pat Armstrong was the other.  That relay team won by a comfortable margin of six seconds after posting a time of 3:34.87.

Bowman took the 1000-yard free in 9:45.82 and the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:57.59.  Ehrenheim won both the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard back in times of 2:00.27 and 1:56.83.  Hood took first in the 100-yard and 200-yard free with marks of 47.07 and 1:44.31.

The Eagles didn’t take first in only three individual races, the 50-yard free, 500-yard free, and 200-yard breast.  In the 50 free Asbury placed second and third as Tyler Decker and Brian Keeler finished just behind Cumberlands’ Robert Miller.  Asbury’s Malachi Oyer finished two and a half seconds behind Gregory Olsen in the 500 free and Alex Losekamp was three seconds behind Nikola Lemac in the 200 breast.

The Eagles have the weekend off before heading to the Appalachian Swim Conference Meet February 18-19.  The meet will be hosted by Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.  The men will look to re-claim the title they won in 2008 and 2009 before losing to Wheeling Jesuit last year.
