Asbury Hosts Christian College Invitational

WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams hosted their first meet on the season on Saturday as Malone University and NCAA Division I Gardner Webb University visited the Asbury Natatorium.  No team score was kept in the annual Christian College Invitational.

The Eagles won nine of the 30 events on the day with the men taking five, the women three and Asbury taking the co-ed 200 yard medley relay.  Asbury’s “A” team swam a 1:46.68, barely out-touching GWU’s “A” team by .13 of a second.

Daniel Bowman (Fr., Lodi, Calif.) won three events on the day, tied with GWU’s Jordan Denmark for the most by any individual.  Bowman won the 400 yard IM in 4:13.89, nearly five seconds ahead of his closest competitor.  He would also take first in the 200 yard fly in a time of 1:57.18 and the 500 yard free in 4:47.38.

Matt Hood and Sarah Ritter were the only other Eagles to win multiple events on the day.  Hood took the 50 and 200 yard free in times of 21.94 and 1:45.77.  He would finish second in the 100 yard free by .26.  Ritter took the 100 yard free and fly races with times of 54.98 and 1:00.23.  Katie Duncan was the only other winner for Asbury, taking the 200 yard back in 2:13.15.
