Mitchell Garners Second Team Academic All-American Honors
TOWSON, Md. – Asbury University junior Stephen Mitchell earned Capital One Academic All-America honors as he picked up a spot on the men’s soccer Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Eagles’ defender picks up the honors with his 3.93 GPA in Pre-Med.
A few weeks ago, Mitchell was honored to the First Team All-District for District 2 of the College Division (NAIA). That honor was Mitchell's first as a three-year starter on the backline for the Eagles, and similarly, this Second Team selection is also his first.
To be nominated for the award a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a scale of 4.0. Additionally, the student-athlete must have participated in 50 percent of the team's matches at that position.
Mitchell met those qualifications by far. His 3.93 GPA in Pre-Med is the highest of the defenders on the team. He has started all 18 games that he played in and helped the Eagles to an 11-8 record this season, including a runner-up performance in the KIAC tournament.
