Stephen Mitchell Earns First-Team Academic All-District Honors
WILMORE, Ky. - Asbury University men's soccer defender Stephen Mitchell has been named to the Capital One Academic All District 2 First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon.
The honor is Mitchell's first as a three-year starter on the backline for the Eagles. The honor also means that Mitchell will advance to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.
To be nominated for the award a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a scale of 4.0. Additionally, the student-athlete must have participated in 50 percent of the team's matches at that position.
Mitchell met those qualifications by far. His 3.93 GPA in Pre-Med is the highest of the defenders on the team. He has started all 15 games that he has played in and has helped the Eagles to a 9-7 record.
Mitchell, a defender, has enjoyed success on the offensive side of the ball this year in addition to his contributions on opposite end of the pitch. Mitchell has tallied three goals this season from his defensive poistion, often coming into the box for the Eagles on corners and at opportune times.
The Eagles will enter postseason play with their next game set for Tuesday, November 5th. The time, location, and opponent have yet to be set.
