WILMORE, Ky. - Stephen Mitchell scored the only goal the Eagles needed Saturday night in front of a jam-packed homecoming crowd. His tally in the 51st minute was the game winner and his third of the season.
The game was a back-and-forth type of affair with numerous chances from both teams to capitalize on the opposition's mistakes to break the 0-0 tie.
The Eagles held the advantage, though, in shots and corners through 45 mintues played. Asbury fired off seven shots to the Tigers' three and took three corners compared to the Tigers' one.
Still the score was knotted 0-0 headed into the halftime break.
Just minutes into the second half Mitchell would break that tie. His first golden opportunity was staved off by opposing goalkeeper Matthew Oster (4 saves) but Mitchell collected his own rebound and sent home the tally.
The junior defender has found a knack for scoring goals this season at just the right moment. Of his three goals, two have been game-winners.
John Burns came up big when he was needed in the second half, making two crucial saves en route to the shutout win.
The Eagles improved to 9-6 on the season with the win and will look to finish out the season on Wednesday, October 30 at Union.
