Garrett DavisWILMORE, Ky. – Garrett Davis provided the game-winner in the 88th minute to send Asbury men’s soccer to the KIAC Tournament championship game on Saturday.  The Eagles defeated Brescia 2-1 on Thursday and will play Point Park in the championship on Saturday.

Asbury (12-6-1) dominated the ball against the Bearcats (6-9-1), taking 24 shots to Brescia’s four.  James Anderson took advantage of one of those four shots, hitting a strike in the 75th minute for his NAIA-leading 31st goal of the year to tie the game at 1-1.  That goal broke over 30 minutes of Asbury holding the lead.

Jesse Peterson scored the first goal of the game in the 44th minute, notching his eighth of the season just six minutes after coming on as a substitute.  Cliff Evans, another late first half sub, added the assist.  The Eagles had several chances in both halves.  Randy Troyer hit the post in the 79th minute before Davis knocked in a potential game-winner that was disallowed after he was called offsides.

Just seven minutes later Davis was able to score the game-winner, his 10th of the season.  Troyer played a ball through that was flicked by Jonathan Rehner to a streaking Davis.  Davis then touched the ball by the drawn out keeper and knocked the ball into the net.

Asbury and Brescia played to a 3-3 tie earlier in the season but the Eagles were able to rebound and won their eighth straight overall.  The Eagles and Point Park played back on September 14 in Wilmore, the Pioneers pulled out a 2-1 double-overtime win.  That was part of a stretch of four losses in five games for the Eagles.  Point Park enters the match at 10-6 overall.  The Pioneers defeated Talladega College 4-1 on Thursday to advance to the finals.  The winner advances to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round to be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 at campus sites across the country.
