Men's Soccer Drops Second Straight

Zach WelchWILMORE, Ky. – Asbury men’s soccer dropped their second straight game, 2-1 to Maine-Fort Kent on Saturday night.  The Eagles have not won at home since August 31.

Justin Soontiens knocked home the first goal for the Bengals in the 7th minute as Asbury turned the ball over in their own end.  The Eagles (4-6-1) tied the match at 1-1 as Trent Popp scored his team-high eighth of the season in the 31st minute.  Jonathan Rehner and Garrett Davis each picked up an assist as Rehner flicked the ball to Davis who found Popp behind the defense on the left side.

Ross Dowine notched the game-winner in the 42nd minute for MFK.  The Bengals (11-0) took 24 shots to Asbury’s 17.  Popp led the Eagles with five shots, Rehner took four.  Kennard Brown led MFK with five shots.  Dylan Fouts made eight saves in goal for the Eagles including several taking away one-on-one opportunities from the Bengals.

Asbury will travel to Ohio Christian on Tuesday and will return home next Friday to host Cumberlands (Ky.).
