WILMORE, Ky. – The goals keep on coming as Asbury rolled to their second straight win to start the season, 5-1 over Hanover College on Friday night. The Eagles have scored 20 goals in two games and lead the NAIA in goals, goals per game, assists, shots per game and shots on goal per game.
Adam Howard continued his hot start, scoring two goals and assisting on one more. The sophomore just missed on his second straight hat-trick as he fired a shot in the second half that was deflected by teammate Garret Davis for the team’s fifth goal of the game.
Howard has scored a team-high five goals this season. Senior Trent Popp added a goal and three assists, connecting with Howard on the first and second goals of the game. Popp found Jonathan Rehner in the 27th to make it 3-0. In between Howard scored his second goal
Popp was pulled down just after halftime in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. The midfielder put it low and in the corner where keeper John Seewer couldn’t get to it. Popp has scored four goals and assisted on six more so far this season. He had only four assists all of last year. Hanover’s Alex Hanke scored the lone goal for the Panthers in the 56th minute making the score 4-1 before Davis added the final goal of the game in the 67th.
